Please note that we are aware that Colyton Grammar School have changed to the Quest 11+ provider and we will be taking this into account during our summer courses and mock examinations.
Practising papers at home is very important but mocks in exam conditions give pupils a definite advantage when taking the real exam.
How will doing mock exams help my child?
- It provides an overall picture of the level your child is working at compared to other children taking the same test
- It highlights their strengths and weaknesses
- It allows them to practise their exam technique
- It teaches them coping strategies in test conditions
- They worry less if they have experienced what it will be like
Our Mocks
We aim to make the mocks as near as possible to the real Colyton 11+ exam experience. Our mocks are in the Quest style format with papers specifically designed by us for those taking the Colyton entrance exam. We have chosen a location which feels like a school hall and gives the authentic experience.
We give tips and advice on how to deal with various situations which may occur on the day and give exam technique advice which can be invaluable.
You will receive an email within 48 hours with scores and a detailed analysis of any weaknesses including topics which need more work or exam techniques.
Our tests are not marked by computers and results automatically generated. We look at each child’s performance and with over 30 years of experience teaching 11+ exam preparation, we can often spot weaknesses others have not noticed and provide guidance on how to put this right.
Changes to the 2023 exam format
Colyton Grammar, Reading School, Chelmsford County High for Girls and Blue Coat School in Liverpool all announced in 2023 that they would move to the newer and unknown Future Schools papers (Quest) which should be more accessible for all. Many other grammar schools are now also using this format.
The Quest papers will consist of two papers covering English and Maths as well a a third paper consisting of the creative writing element of the test. Quest Ltd do not publish ANY test papers but we use our own papers created from years of producing practice books and practice papers under the name ‘Gulliford Tutors’. You can see the full range of practice tests and books on our sister website www.gullifordtutors.com
How will the actual test be used?
For Colyton Grammar, the English and Maths elements are marked by computer and age- standardised. Those students with an eligible score from those two elements who are either side of the cut off for places, will have their creative writing element assessed and candidates will be ranked accordingly.
For the Torquay grammars, there will be no creative writing element so the two GL papers will be marked by computer and age-standardised. All students will be ranked accordingly.
